This past week I had the opportunity to attend the yearly Cannondale Sales Kickoff Meeting at the Mountain Creek Resort in New Jersey. This is also code for getting to ride some of the most badass new bikes on the market today.
Dealers from all over the US gathered together and were introduced to the new model lineup for 2018. One thing is for sure, Cannondale did not pull any punches for 2018. Not only are the new models drool worthy, but they just plain work. The new technologies introduced in models such as the ALL new Synapse as well as the Trigger and Jekyll is simply incredible.
The all new SAVE integrated handlebar and stem combo sticks out immediately. No longer are you bound by one stem length, but with the new system you can choose any length stem you want. Cannondale also kept the circumference of the top part of the bar the same as a traditional bar that will fit even smaller hands. The new integrated gps mount fits both Garmin and Wahoo computers which is super cool and well thought out.
I had the opportunity to ride the all new Trigger and boy, this thing made life pretty easy when the nose is pointed downhill. With its new Gemini rear suspension this is a game changer. I had a blast.
One of the highlights of my trip was not only to meet Ted King, but to ride and chat with him. What a great guy and even better ambassador for our sport. We hope to get him down to the Whitetail HQ for a ride someday. As a side note, he is also the founder of unTapped maple, great all natural maple based nutritional products. Thats pretty much all I use on my rides. Its fantastic.
The big buzz on the resort was the launch of the all new Synapse. That was the first bike I took on demo and it didn’t disappoint. I rode the chili red HiMod version with Dura-Ace mechanical. I have never been a real fan of endurance bikes until now. This bike single handedly changed my perception. It handles like a dream and soaks up pretty much everything you launch it into. On my ride I purposely sought out uneven pavement to see how it handles. Impressive is an understatement. Did I mention that the Synapse can fit up to a 32mm tire? The riding possibilities with this machine is limitless.
One of the most impressive product lines were the Cannondale Kids line. They have developed a balance bike with a freaking Lefty! How cool is that? Cannondale’s kids range is lighter than any other bike on the market. Ideally a kids bike should be 30-40% of their weight. Very few manufacturers have actually managed to do that. Cannondale has done a fantastic job in keeping the weights low and making the kids bike more enjoyable as well as rideable.
Also new for 2018 is the new SE designated bikes. Look out for the Synapse and Scalpel SE as they are a bit more aggressive wider tires and a bit more suspension for the Scalpel.
My takeaway from my trip was that Cannondale is a company that is 110% committed to the independent bike shops. That alone to me as a business owner is great to hear. We feel good being a part of a company who supports us.
Stop by and I’ll tell you even more about my trip!
